- Another Golden Era? It's been a story
of growth and consolidation among the big beefy bashmobiles of the National
2 litre formula, which have developed into a very specialised form of race car
indeed, and has a driver roster chock full of talent, both on the track and in
the workshop. Paul Huggett takes a look again at what he once dubbed 'The
Saloonies' and likes what he sees...
Scunthorpe – Opening Meeting It is very
pleasing, in these days where you seem to only hear of stock car tracks closing
for various reasons, that a new circuit is opening, and perhaps even more so,
when it is a new shale track…..and opened it now has, as the new Scunthorpe
Raceway (or the Eddie Wright Raceway as it is also known) staged its first ever
Stock Car meeting on Saturday 16th May 2009...
Helen’s Got Talent Those of you that
have been down to the Oval race club just out side of Angmering in Sussex will
doubtless agree that the track looks daunting from the spectator’s point of
view. With its mix of wide and sharp bends, undulating and highly grippy
concrete surface the venue has produced its fair share of decent drivers. The
1000cc Mini class is the proving ground for many a would be hot rod or stock car
driver. Such notable’s as Dave Longhurst, Dickie Burtenshaw, Ian Sturt, and
Alan Buckland have all come up through the ranks, even our own Paul Huggett
reminded me that he raced there in the 70’s when it was a dirt track. One of
the latest graduates is Helen Blackman ...
