Captain Chaos Returns

Ex BriSCA F1 star Ian Higgins 29 is making a return to the ovals after a 10 year lay off. Higgins who runs the Stoxkarts Formula made a one off appearance at Coventry’s December meeting in the Tony Smith 91 FWJ Built big block car and caused quite a stir.
Following on from this meeting Higgins received various offers of help which has made it possible for him to race at a limited number of meetings in 2012.
Higgins, 46 from Shiptonthorpe East Yorkshire was a regular star grade driver in the late eighties and early nineties and earned the nickname of Captain Chaos due to his win or bust style of driving, even his one off appearance at Coventry saw him involved in a 2 car rollover and an attempt to exit the race track by riding down the top of the Armco fencing!
Higgins says “I am genuinely humbled by the response I got from my one off appearance at Coventry and since then things seem to have snowballed! I have recieved a couple of offers of sponsorship and help and I have purchased the Smith Chassis that I raced at Christmas and the engine and Gearbox has come from a long time friend Dave Nicholls 242 whos racing career was ended in a bad accident at Coventry a couple of years ago. My plan is to put a bit of light hearted fun back into the sport and not take myself too seriously. Dont get me wrong I still want to win and look forward to racing against some of the new generation young guns, I last raced against their Dads!”
As part of the fun side and to raise some extra revenue for both his racing and the BSCDA Ben Fund Higgins has Re launched The Barmy Army Fan Club which he had in the late 1980s. In a deal with Steve Rees the Startrax promotor any members of the Barmy Army will receive a £1 discount on admission prices to all his F1 meetings.
Higgins has also launched his own website www.captainchaos29.co.uk which has news and information about what he is up to and there is also a face book page for The Barmy Army.
Higgins will be racing at all the Startrax meetings at Belle Vue, Stoke and Sheffield along with 2 Coventry meeting in July and August as he will already be there that day with the Stoxkarts Formula. Due to his involvement with the Stoxkarts Higgins has done a deal with Frankie Wainman to transport and look after the car.
