Blast From the Past at Arlington Stadium
Spedeworth Southern will turn the clock back to the glory days of Stock Car racing when a field of classic Stock Cars take to the track at Arlington Stadium at 2pm on Bank Holiday Monday, May 30th.
The classic Stock Cars will bring back memories of the days when petrol cost pennies rather than pounds a gallon and a Ford Pilot, old US automobile, or Model Y was the car of choice for those early daredevils who traded automotive blows at Arlington Stadium and the host of other tracks that were springing up to cater for the new form of all-action racing.
The veteran cars in action include several Ford Model Y’s, Ford Pilots, a replica of local hero Eric Taylor’s 1961 Ford Popular in which the late star driver set a record five race wins in one meeting in 1963 (the record still stands today) and an impressive 7.4 litre 1941 Pontiac Silver Streak.
Fans will also have the chance to meet some of the pioneer drivers of the sport as veteran drivers will be at the meeting to talk to about the early days of Stock Car racing.
